South Coast residents awoke to an earthquake early Sunday morning near Carpinteria.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reports a 3.4 magnitude earthquake struck 12 km northeast of Carpinteria at 1:34 a.m.
The exact location is closest to the Ocean View Trail off Divide Peak Route in the backcountry.

A 3.3 at 1:35 Sunday a.m., NE of Carpinteria. (12 km, approx. 7.5 miles, away.) I was watching tv and felt and heard it. (My older abode creaks.) I always go to USGS and fill out Did You Feel It. 5 responses so far. I can’t be the only Edhat reader still awake, can I? 🙂 https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/ci39396176/executive

Well, maybe. There is a loading time, no? I was first or second. 😉 Seems I was first to report to Edhat, and that was after USGS “Did You Feel It” 😉
Yes, they have a strength limit. A good thing, no? I never would’ve bothered reporting this, or even felt it, if I hadn’t been up and the computer was on. Oh, I was thinking of Shake Alert, which is a partnership between USGS and other research/monitoring institutions.
