The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department (PHD) reports 1,129 new COVID-19 cases and 7 deaths in the past three days.
There are currently 2,085 active cases throughout the county. Of those, 112 are hospitalized with 49 in the intensive care unit (ICU).
On Monday, PHD reported 331 new cases and two deaths. Both individuals were 70+ years of age and had underlying medical conditions. One death was associated with an outbreak at a congregate facility. One person resided in Goleta and the other in Santa Barbara.
On Saturday, there were 531 new cases and 5 deaths. Five individuals were 70+ years of age. Four individuals had underlying health conditions and three deaths were associated with an outbreak at a congregate care facility. Two individuals resided in Lompoc, two in Santa Maria, and one in Orcutt.
On Sunday, there were 307 new cases with 2,196 active cases. There were 185 hospitalizations including 46 in the ICU.
There have been 267 COVID-19 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
As of Monday, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced an end to the Regional Stay at Home Order for all regions. PHD followed up the announcement stating Santa Barbara County has returned to the Purple Tier and a Health Officer Order outlining the specific restrictions and allowances for Santa Barbara County businesses and residents will be issued. This Health Officer Order will take effect at 8 a.m. on January 26, 2020.
While some businesses are allowed to reopen, such as outdoor dining, gatherings with members outside your household are still prohibited.

Huh… that’s weird. I have 238 on 1/22 and 531 reported new cases on 1/23, but it was 238 for both days? Well, at least we can be happy that 73 Covid folks were discharged from the hospital yesterday (a record? it’s usually just a handful) and 11 taken off ventilators!
MountainMan, I have similar numbers. They recently changed the data on the Status Page so that now Sat (1/23) numbers are identical to Fri (1/22) numbers. Like you, I copy them daily and also have the 531 (I actually got 528) number for Saturday. Earlier today they listed 11,445 health care workers infected, and just recently changed it to 1145. Someone is fiddling with the data. My 3-day count is 1163 new cases. I get that they may make corrections from time to time, but someone changed Saturday to be identical to Friday and swept 500+ cases under the rug. It’s easy to proof that they tried to hide the data, because they forgot to change the cumulative numbers. Monday’s Cumulative Positives = 25,986. Saturday’s Cumulative Positives = 25,986. Subtract them and the difference is 1,163 new cases over 3-days.
MountainMan, No, I think we’re over the worst of the holiday gathering spread. I was merely pointing out that the SBPHD Status Page numbers were duplicated and that EdHat is posting incorrect information. Generally the daily average is still hovering in the mid-300s. Isla Vista is starting to show signs of an outbreak now that Chancellor Yang allowed more undergraduates back into university-owned housing. I think that will contribute enough cases to slow reopening based on the colored tier systems, but IV just on it’s own won’t overwhelm us to the point of no hospital beds left.
