To treat your question as serious–Yes, 101 intersects with 154 going East and West in Santa Barbara. Without knowing more, this sign is likely to be correct. (And, yes, we typically think of 101 going North and South as that is the general direction. But most locals certainly understand how Santa Barbara faces South and things around here are a bit unusual for the Pacific Coast. )
That looks like a bogus sign, kind of like that homeless one from last week.
I hate when people designate 101 E/W instead of N/S. It is AND is not technically correct. Yes, it physically runs east west directionally through town. At the same time, odd numbered highways are designated north south, and evens east west, so technically it should be north south by that standard. It is also N/S in the vast majority of the state, so it is reasonable to stick to that even in bendy areas like ours.
So you can all quit guessing, the sign is correct and real. The sign is on Hwy 154 and it’s a detour. Hwy 154 runs east and west, okay. Therefore if you on 154 and want to go to the 101 you must go either east or west to get to get to the 101. From a retired construction engineer, here’s a little clue for you all, all north and south roads are odd numbered and all east and west ones are even…over the whole entire country , no matter which way your compass is going.
I live on the Gaviota coast. This section runs due east and west for 20 miles. We always refer to the 101 going north even though it is going due west here. I think this sign must be a prank.
