Painting in a trompe l’oeil tradition, “To trick the eye and entertain the mind,” Dalziel says with a wink. The exhibit is highlighted by being integrated within a working business. In & Out Series becomes an enjoyable site-specific experience as the paintings off-set (all puns intended) and complement…how the art intersects with the tools of the trade at Tri-Co. These mesmerizing canvases were created in the ‘90s. All are for sale.

Motivated by Brazil’s astonishing birds and a sense of urgency to see and photograph them prior to further declines, Santa Barbara bird enthusiasts Satie Airamé , Jeff Chemnick, and Mark Holmgren teamed up with Brazilian biologist and bird guide Raphael E. F. Santos on multiple expeditions to Brazil. The indefatigable explorers traveled to remote localities with complicated logistics to observe and photograph wild birds in their natural habitats. This presentation features a collection of stunning bird photographs as well as stories, insights, and (often humorous) commentary by the birders as they share their experiences with the unforgettable birds of Brazil.

Julie M. Rivett, Dashiell Hammett’s granddaughter and archivist, will discuss Hammett's noir in literature and how it was adapted for the big screen.
Based on the 1930 novel by Dashiell Hammett, The Maltese Falcon is a 1941 American film noir written and directed by John Huston in his directorial debut, and indebted to the 1931 movie of the same name. It stars Humphrey Bogart as private investigator Sam Spade and Mary Astor as his femme fatale client. Gladys George, Peter Lorre, and Sydney Greenstreet co-star, with the latter appearing in his film debut. The story follows a San Francisco private detective and his dealings with three unscrupulous adventurers, all of whom are competing to obtain a jewel-encrusted falcon statuette.
