Since March of 2020, we have been challenged and reshaped -- as a community and individuals -- by our experiences living through the COVID-19 pandemic and renewal of abolitionist and anti-racist activist movements. Amidst the shift to remote learning and working, UCSB Library’s Special Research Collections initiated two ongoing projects: the Santa Barbara Black Lives Matter Community Archives and the COVID-19 Community Archives.
The Santa Barbara Maritime Museum is pleased to announce the long-awaited re-opening of the exhibit, Mermaids: Visualizing the Myths and Legends through Photography, 16 images printed on canvas by Ralph Clevenger and friends. Originally scheduled to open on April 22, 2020, the exhibit was postponed because of the Covid-19 pandemic closures. Now, thanks to the generous support of Mimi Michaelis, the Alice Tweed Tuohy Foundation, and the Wood-Claeyssens Foundation the exhibit will be open to the public from November 11, 2021, through April 30, 2022. There will also be mermaid photo opportunities at the museum by appointment on Saturday, November 13, 2021, from 11:30am-12:30pm and 1-2pm, $10 for museum members and $30 for non-members.

Seaward is an absurdist tragicomedy exploring the issue of identity within the setting of a 1930s asylum for the mentally ill.
Center Stage Theater is excited to partner with UCSB’s Initiative for New & Reimagined Work to bring Cyrus Robert’s new play 'Seaward' to life.
Premiered in 2014, As One quickly became the most frequently performed American opera thanks to its lyricism and the universality and timeliness of its themes: authenticity, identity, compassion and self-love.

Vincent is the critically lauded one-man play, written by Emmy-nominated actor Leonard Nimoy, that paints a thoughtful, imaginary scenario about one of the most famous names in the art world, Vincent van Gogh. Based on excerpts from the hundreds of letters exchanged between the artist and his brother Theo, this version of the intimately scaled play features Charles Pasternak, award-winning actor and Designate Artistic Director of Santa Cruz Shakespeare, in the dual roles of Vincent and Theo.
A co-production of the Santa Barbara Museum of Art and Ensemble Theatre Company.

With all four members only in their twenties, the Paris-based Arod Quartet has already dazzled awestruck chamber-music lovers in concerts at such prestigious venues as the Auditorium of the Louvre in Paris and the Verbier Festival in Switzerland. The Arod quickly skyrocketed to international attention when they won the coveted First Prize of the 2016 ARD International Music Competition in Munich, having already taken First Prize at the Carl Nielsen Chamber Music Competition in Copenhagen. In April 2019 the Quartet undertook its American debut tour, which featured its inaugural Carnegie Hall performance—one of the only European chamber ensembles ever to make its Carnegie Hall debut on its first trip to the United States. This will be the Arod Quartet’s first performance at SBMA.
They will perform Mozart’s String Quartet No. 19 in C Major, K 465 “Dissonance”, Bartók’s String Quartet No. 1 in A minor, No. 1, and Ravel’s String Quartet in F Major.
On Wednesday, March 23 at 7:00pm, 350 Santa Barbara will host an online community conversation about transitioning our regional energy system away from gas to clean energy.
Singer/songwriters Alice Howe & Freebo will perform their debut show at SOhO Restaurant & Music Venue joined by Santa Barbara's own Maitland Ward on guitar and Eddie Tuduri on drums.

Watching birds: not only fun, but good for you!
Learn why getting your daily dose of Ornitherapy is just what the doctor ordered…. Ornitherapy leads to a more mindful approach to the observation of birds, benefits our mind, body, and soul. We’re pushed and pulled in many directions, no matter our age. If we allow birds and nature to slow us down, we are practicing a form of “selfcare”. Research shows that exposure to nature actively reduces stress, depression, and anxiety, while helping build a stronger heart and immune system.
