In this reinterpretation of the Greek Medea, Aztec (Mexica) deities descend upon a dystopian U.S. future. Poet-Playwright Cherríe Moraga employs an intimate realism to create a drama of mythic dimension about two exiled women, their love of each other, and of the Indigenous nation denied them.

As part of the Fiftieth Anniversary Carillon Recital Series, Leslie Chan (Associate Carillonist, UC Berkeley) will present a recital from the carillon in UCSB's Storke Tower on Sunday, August 4th at 2 pm. Alexandra Lippman (UCLA) will present a talk titled "Sonic Governance: Criminalization and Culturalization of Funk Carioca in Rio de Janeiro," on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 from 3:30-5 pm in Music Room 1145. The talk will be followed by an end-of-year party and live DJ set by Dr. Lippman (aka Xandão) in the Music Bowl. Graduate student Brandon J. Rolle will present a PhD Music Composition Lecture Recital on Wednesday, June 5th at 6:30 pm in Room 1145 in the Music Building. This Lecture Recital will be a presentation of Rolle's research, approach, and techniques of composition, demonstrated by a number of live performances, including works for string quartet (Kristina Tsanova, Catherine Patton, Jordan Warmath, Thomas Lin), piano and electronics (Marc Evans), and viola and live electronics (Jordan Warmath, Brandon Rolle). Examples from Rolle's fixed-media and multimedia works will be shown, as well, including excerpts from his audio-video collaboration with Christopher Richmond, Hyperway. The event will last one hour.

"Ensemble" is a multi-media installation by artist Chris Kallmyer. Central to the exhibition is a specially fabricated, communal bell-ringing instrument that serves as a resource for communal activities.

Patrick Melroy currently maintains a studio practice in the city of Santa Barbara, California. Melroy’s practice exists most often as interactive objects and experiences designed to engage an audience. His work has appeared in shows from Belgrade Serbia to Los Angeles. He was a founding member of the influential Uppur Bunk Collaborative and a charter member of Bottled Lightning Projects. In "Autumn Light," Iyer describes a single season in his suburban neighborhood in Japan as the leaves turn, the skies grow ever more brilliant, and he watches elders die, grandchildren arrive, and all the universal questions of love and loss play out in a world of ancestor worship and moon-viewing. Pico Iyer is the author of more than a dozen books of fiction and non-fiction and has been writing regularly, for more than a quarter-century, for more than 200 periodicals worldwide. Two of his recent books, "The Art of Stillness" and "The Open Road" were national bestsellers. This spring he has been Ferris Professor of Journalism at Princeton.
