June 30, 2021 - The Southern California Artists Painting for the Environment (SCAPE) and the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum (SBMM) are cohosting Images of Our Rekindled Maritime Community, an online exhibit and sale of fine art on Wednesday, August 18-Tuesday, August 24, 2021, and an in-person exhibit and sale at the museum on Wednesday, August 25 from 1:00-8:00pm and on Thursday, August 26, from 10:00am-5:00pm. A special opening reception will also be held on August 25 from 5:00-8:00 pm.

The Santa Barbara Maritime Museum (SBMM) will present “Casting a Light into the Deep Sea,” a free zoom webinar with research ecologist Lizzie Duncan exploring what scientists are learning about deep-sea coral and sponge communities off the California coast. This presentation will take place on Thursday, August 19, 2021, at 7 pm and is free thanks to the generosity of Marie L. Morrisroe. As in the past, these non-denominational programs are for both novice and experienced meditators.
The Goleta Valley Art Association will host an art festival featuring original works by local artists on Saturday, August 21, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at La Cumbre Plaza. Sponsors include Art Essentials, La Cumbre Plaza, La Cumbre Center for Creative Arts (LCCCA), Limousine Link, Pacific Western Bank and Santa Barbara Voice Magazine.
The show will be mounted in the outdoor mall area of the plaza and give visitors the opportunity to view and purchase the association’s artwork as well as that of artists affiliated with the La Cumbre Center for Creative Arts, which established three work/display galleries in October 2019. Tom Henderson’s Summerland Band will provide music from 1-4 p.m. Henderson, a well-known watercolorist long affiliated with the GVAA summer shows, also has served on the SBCC Lifelong Learning art faculty.
