World Music Series: UCSB Gospel Choir

Directed by Victor Bell, the choir will perform traditional and contemporary songs drawn from African American religious traditions on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at 12 p.m. in the UCSB Music Bowl as part of the World Music Series. Admission is free. The World Music Series is co-presented by the UCSB MultiCultural Center and the Ethnomusicology Program in the Department of Music.

Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley

Ensemble Theatre Company (ETC) announces their new holiday show, Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley, a creation by Lauren Gunderson and Margot Melcon.  Directed by Andrew Barnicle, this regional-theater hit is a sequel to Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice”, and reunites its characters to place the bookish middle sister, Mary Bennet, in the limelight. The production will debut on Thursday, November 30, and will run until December 17, 2017.

3 Minute Film Festival

The 3 Minute Film Festival will screen 23 new films, in all genres on Thursday, November 30th: Narrative, Animation, Documentary, and Experimental. Films selected are from Dubai to Sweden and Ireland, From France to Scotland and Martinique, and a hearty sprinkling of USA films, including two local filmmakers. 

3 Minute Film Festival

23 new 3 minute films will screen at SBCAST, 513 Garden Street. Two Screenings: 6:30 and 8PM. Films from Dubai to Ireland, India and London to France, Martinque to Sweden and a hardy handfull of USA films, inlcuding three locals. Donation suggested $3. Reception and meet and greet with many of the filmmakers after the 6:30 screening. Seating is limited. Parking off-site.

Script to Screen: The Shape Of Water

From master storyteller Guillermo del Toro comes The Shape of Water, an otherworldly fairy tale set against the backdrop of Cold War-era America circa 1962. In the hidden high-security government laboratory where she works, Elisa (Sally Hawkins) is trapped in a life of isolation. Elisa’s life is changed forever when she and co-worker Zelda (Octavia Spencer) discover a secret classified experiment. Rounding out the cast are Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Doug Jones and Michael Stuhlbarg.

UCSB Script to Screen will host Screenwriter Vanessa Taylor for a post-screening Q&A. The event will be moderated by Pollock Theater Director Matt Ryan.

UCSB Script to Screen is sponsored by the department of Film and Media Studies, the Carsey-Wolf Center, and the Scott Frank Fund for Screenwriting. It is hosted by the Pollock Theater Director, Matt Ryan, and co-produced by the Pollock Theater student staff. Script to Screen: The Shape of Water is co-sponsored by Fox Searchlight Pictures.

Under the direction of Paul Bambach, the UCSB Wind Ensemble will present its annual fall concert on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. in Lotte Lehmann Concert Hall.
