The Santa Barbara Maritime Museum is delighted to announce that Arthur Beaumont: Art of the Sea--an exhibit of 53 paintings chronicling the accomplishments of the US Navy, from the USS Constitution to atomic bomb tests and expeditions to the North and South Poles—will be at the Museum for just six months, the last show on the West Coast before it leaves for the East Coast. Beaumont used Impressionist techniques in painting the stunning images in this exhibit and in capturing the majesty of the oceans and the vessels that sail them.

Composer Liviu Marinescu will present a lecture entitled “Shadows for Piano and Electronics. An Exploration of Texture, Harmony and Timbre” as a visiting artist of the 2020 Corwin Chair Series. The presentation will take place on Friday, December 4, 2020 at 4 pm PST via Zoom.

Opera Santa Barbara is thrilled to present Carmen, A Live Drive-In Opera, a 90-minute version of Bizet's blockbuster hit, based on an adaptation by British director Peter Brook. It'll be an up-close and personal look at the loves and rivals of our titular heroine--all from the safe and socially distanced comfort of your car.

Undergraduate vocalist Terra Giddens (mezzo-soprano) will present a virtual recital with pianist Erik Lawrence on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at 4 pm as a YouTube Premiere via the Department of Music’s YouTube channel. The program will include works by Georges Bizet, Manuel de Falla, Kurt Weill, Hector Berlioz, Stefano Donaudy, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Richard Strauss. Local writers, working in a variety of genres and forms, meet with participants for two, 90-minute sessions during consecutive weeks
