The World Business Academy is hosting a discussion on March 21 about ways that community leaders can join businesses and others to create a vibrant retail business scene for the long-term in Santa Barbara. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.

Bag Embellishing Workshop

f you love looking through Art From Scrap for that perfect bead or piece of fabric to decorate something, this is the workshop for you. Using items from the store you will personalize a burlap tote bag. Use buttons, fabric applique, beads, and more to make a one of a kind bag you will treasure. Let your creativity flow surrounded by new friends and inspiring materials. Each person will leave with a one of a kind bag that is sure to delight.

Sketching in the Galleries

All skill levels are invited to experience the tradition of sketching from original works of art in Highlights of the Permanent Collection. Museum Teaching Artists provide general guidance and all materials. Each program is open to 10 participants.

Born in Santa Barbara, California, Anthony L. Ybarra has had the guitar in his hands all his life. His father introduced to him Latin and jazz music at an early age and soon his musical palette broadened to encompass classical and flamenco. He also was a multi-instrumentalist and performed in rock, pop, and Liturgical settings. His diverse musical background proved essential in the success of Ybarra Music. His understanding of these diverse styles has led him craft out his own sound that is melodic, romantic, intimate, rhythmic, and sophisticated.

Five Invitations: What The Dying Teach The Living, An Evening with Frank Ostaseki

Hospice of Santa Barbara’s Community Education and Engagement Series is pleased to present Five Invitations: What The Dying Teach The Living, An Evening with Frank Ostaseki.

On Thursday, March 22, guest speaker Frank Ostaseki will discuss the importance of embracing death before the end of life. A Book Signing of his book The Five Invitations will take place immediately after his presentation.

Frank Ostaseki is the cofounder of the Zen Hospice Project, one of San Francisco’s first residential hospice facilities, and the Metta Institute, which offers educational programs related to spirituality and dying. He is a well-respected Buddhist teacher and has lectured at Harvard Medical School, the Mayo Clinic, and at major spiritual centers throughout the world.

This event is free and open to all community members. Attendees must register in advance at www.hospiceofsantabarbara.org.
