SBWPC’s “What’s Next for the Feminist Agenda?” A Conversation with Holly Mitchell, Los Angeles County Supervisor

SBWPC's Annual Presidents' Circle Event focuses on the topic of "What's Next" for today's feminist agenda, which coincides with Women's History Month. Headlining the 2021 event is California trailblazer and rising political star Los Angeles Board of Supervisor Holly Mitchell. In 2019, then State Senator Mitchell introduced and helped pass the CA Crown Act that prohibits discrimination against natural hairstyles worn by people of color in the workplace. Santa Barbara County 3rd District Supervisor Joan Hartmann will join the discussion offering a local perspective on the theme of "What's Next."

UCSB Chamber Players

Directed by Jonathan Moerschel, the UC Santa Barbara Chamber Players will present a virtual concert on Thursday, March 11, 2021, at 6 pm PST as a YouTube Premiere via the Department of Music's
YouTube Channel. The program will include works by Claude Debussy, Elena Ruehr, Johann Joseph Fux, Scott Joplin, Jennifer Higdon, Roger Chapman, Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Paul Hindemith, and Jessie Montgomery. The event will feature performances by students from the UC Santa Barbara Chamber Music Program.

The Department of Music will present a virtual Corwin Series Concert, "Synchresis - the Alchemy of Visual Music," on Friday, March 12, 2021 at 6 pm PST as a YouTube Premiere via the Department of Music's YouTube channel. This winter’s Corwin Series program will investigate the various potential fusions between sound and the moving image in “Synchresis." Listeners will be guided through the merger of diverse visual and musical universes and engage their imaginations through the works of Elsa Justel, Chikashi Miyama, Francis Dhomont, Jorge Sad Levi, Clarence Barlow, João Pedro Oliveira, Dennis H. Miller, and Alejandro Casales.

Beethoven CellObration!

Directed by Professor Jennifer Kloetzel, members of the UCSB Cello Squad will present a "Beethoven CellObration!" on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at 6 pm PST as a YouTube Premiere via the Department of Music's YouTube Channel. This special event will celebrate Beethoven's 250th Birthday and showcase movements from his piano and cello works, performed by members of Professor Jennifer Kloetzel's cello class. For this virtual performance, the UCSB Cello Squad commissioned artist Tyler Scrivner as their background designer.
