Summer Nocturne: Works on Paper from the 1970s

Inspired by several large drawings in the Santa Barbara Museum of Art’s permanent collection, this exhibition demonstrates a variety of experimental practices during the 1970s and represents images and issues relevant to contemporary art and culture. Included are works by ten artists: Robert Beauchamp, Huguette Caland, Richard Dunlap, Dane Goodman, Luchita Hurtado, Tom Marioni, Marie Schoeff, Michelle Stuart, Joan Tanner, and John M. White.

Summer Art Camp

SBMA Art Camps and After-School Classes offer students the opportunity to explore a variety of art fundamentals such as drawing, painting, sculpting, color, and composition while directly connecting to the Santa Barbara Museum of Art’s current exhibitions. As students create art, they build confidence, become actively familiar with the Museum, and learn visual thinking strategies which enhance communication, visual literacy skills, and critical thinking across all curriculum areas.

Summer Ceramics Camp

Learn the basic techniques of sculptural and functional ceramics including hand building and wheel
throwing in a fun and relaxed environment. Students create simple clay forms and experiment with
surface decoration and glazing techniques, inspired by the Museum’s permanent collection and
upcoming special exhibitions.
