UCSB Graduate Student Recital: Naomi Merer, soprano

Graduate voice student Naomi Merer (soprano) will present a doctoral recital, "Farewell to the world: a recital on the life of Mary, Queen of Scots," with pianist Asher Severini on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 1:30 pm in Karl Geiringer Hall. The program will feature works by Joachim Raff, Carl Loewe, Edward Elgar, Robert Schumann, and Gaetano Donizetti.

Ventura County Ballet Presents 20th Anniversary of “The Nutcracker”

Ventura County Ballet Company, Ventura County’s premiere regional ballet return for its 20th year to perform Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center, 800 Hobson Way, Oxnard on December 1st and 2nd at 2 PM and the following weekend at the
Ventura College Performing Arts Center, 4700 Loma Vista on December 7th at 7 PM, December 8th at 2 PM & 7 PM and December 9th at 2 PM.
To celebrate their 20th anniversary, there will be new scenic backdrops hand painted by internationally recognized Russian artist Yuri Samodorov.
This classic holiday production is a must see for all ballet lovers. Each performance will be accompanied by the 52-piece Ventura College Symphony Orchestra lead by Maestro Robert Lawson.
This can’t-miss holiday event will capture the imagination of the audience with its delightful story, graceful choreography and elegant costumes and sets.

Santa Barbara Music Club Free Concerts

The Santa Barbara Music Club presents a free concert at First United Methodist Church, 305 East Anapamu St., 3pm, Saturday, December 1. The program features works that reconcile old and new, nostalgia and progression: Bach’s Sonata in D for Viola da gamba and Harpsichord, Schumann’s Piano Quartet in Eb, and Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances arranged for two pianos.

Light Up A Life 2018 – Santa Barbara

Hospice of Santa Barbara (HSB) invites the community to celebrate and honor the lives of loved ones at its 35th annual Light Up a Life ceremonies.

Light Up a Life ceremonies are free to attend and feature special guests and speakers, music, and a memorial tree lighting, including hundreds of sparkling tribute stars hung to commemorate those who are no longer with us.

Stars are available online and will also be available at each ceremony for a suggested donation of $15 or more for those wishing to personalize a star to hang on the tree. Hospice of Santa Barbara will record the names being honored and remembered into the Book of Life, which will be available in perpetuity online. All proceeds will benefit Hospice of Santa Barbara programs.
