SBWPC Carpinteria Friendraiser

This special Happy Hour gathering is organized to encourage local women in Carpinteria and Summerland to become better acquainted with the work and progress of the Santa Barbara Women's Political Committee (SBWPC), and learn best practices to improve our community. Friendraisers in the city of Santa Barbara are commonplace and they attract women from across the county and they are intergenerational. The SBWPC looks forward to meeting potential members in the Carpinteria and Summerland area. Come out, meet your neighbors, and bring a friend. We in SBWPC are women who care about our community and are committed to improving the circumstances of women, girls, and families throughout our local areas. We also know that many Carpinteria and Summerland women are interested in local politics. The SBWPC is non-partisan, and we want to meet you. Let's gather at the Carpinteria Women's Club on Monday, February 25th at 7 pm to help shape the future of Carpinteria and Summerland.

Constructing the Terrorist Threat

Deepa Kumar, one of the nation’s foremost scholars on Islamophobia, looks at how Muslims have become the predominant face of terror in U.S. news and entertainment media — even though terror attacks by white extremists have far outnumbered attacks by Muslim Americans since 9/11. Arguing that racialized threats have long been used to induce moral panics and advance anti-democratic policies, Kumar explores how ruling elites have been raising the specter of Arab and Islamic terror since the 1970s to justify militarism, war, and curbs on civil
