Would you like to meet Mrs. Dundounba, Mr. Sangban, and the little Kenkeni? Together they form a family of West African drums and they sound just like their names. West African dance is powerful, deeply healing, and allows for freedom through rhythmic expression. Come learn how to play these and other instruments, as well as dance to their beats, no matter what your age is! The class will be led by Leida Tolentino, a passionate student and performer of West African and African diaspora dance styles since 2002, and Fara Tolno, who since the age of nine has played djembe and traveled extensively performing and teaching both drumming and dance.

Sex Workers Outreach Project-Los Angeles is a local chapter of SWOP-USA, a national grassroots social justice network dedicated to the fundamental human rights of sex workers and their communities, focusing on ending violence and stigma through education, community building, and advocacy. In this presentation and workshop, members of SWOP-LA will discuss their advocacy work and community building, particularly in light of SESTA/FOSTA, recent legislation that has limited sex workers’ access to harm reduction resources, as well as how to build solidarity with workers from within the academy.
