Your Brain Matters Luncheon Honoring Leeza Gibbons

The Alzheimer’s Women’s Initiative, Ventura County, led by Chair Amy  Commans  of the Alzheimer’s Association, California Central Coast Chapter, presents the Second Annual ‘Your Brain Matters’ Luncheon at the Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village on Friday, May 10, 2019, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. 

‘The Power of the Purse’; Women United 3rd Annual Luncheon

United Way of Ventura County’s (UWVC) Women United will explore the “Power of the Purse” during its 3rd Annual Luncheon, featuring acclaimed social psychologist and author Dr. Aida Hurtado. All proceeds will benefit United Way programs.

Dr. Hurtado holds the Luis Leal Endowed Chair in the Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies at UCSB. In her upcoming book, “Sitios y Lenguas (Spaces and Languages/Discourses): Chicana Feminisms,” Dr. Hurtado introduces the field of Chicana feminist analysis.

New Works Lab 2019

The New Works Lab presents bare bones developmental productions of half-hour scripted and devised plays. The program provides a simple 'fringe festival' level of technical and design support so that each work may evolve in content and structure through the final performance. Works are selected every November through an open application process. The process is supported by a weekly spring quarter class in which NWL student actors, designers, playwrights, directors, stage managers and publicists working on the productions convene with faculty and staff mentors to view and critique staged iterations of each work.

Graduate Student Recital: Molly Clementz Mezzo-soprano

Graduate vocalist Molly Clementz (mezzo-soprano) will present a Doctor of Musical Arts Lecture Recital, titled "Exploring Octavian," on Saturday, May 11th at 4:30 pm in Karl Geiringer Hall in the Music Building. Ms. Clementz will be joined by soprano Naomi Merer and pianist Tim Accurso. Ms. Clementz is a student of Dr. Linda Di Fiore and Dr. John Ballerino.

The Santa Barbara Symphony concludes its sensational 2018-2019 season with the beloved classic Romeo & Juliet, conducted by Maestro Nir Kabaretti on Saturday, May 11 at 8:00 pm at The Granada Theatre (1214 State St).
