Introduction to Microsoft Windows

SBCC School of Extended Learning, Career Skills Institute

Prepare to enter or re-enter the workforce with the computer skills needed for entry-level office jobs with high employment potential jobs in Santa Barbara County and California. SBCC Career Skills Institute’s Introduction to Windows course helps you explore Help, windows navigation and management, file management, desktop customization, and other Windows Operating System and applications.
You may elect to take this course independent of a Career Skills Institute digital badge or apply it to the Beginning Computer Skills Certificate. Participants who earn this certificate will have developed the basic knowledge of computer functions in the Microsoft Windows environment. All Career Skills Institute classes are tuition-free.
To obtain the Beginning Computer Skills Certificate, participants must complete a total of two required courses and two elective courses:

Required:
(1) Computers for Beginners
(2) Introduction to Windows

Electives:
(1) Learn to Type
(2) How to Use a Computer Keyboard and Mouse for Beginners
(3) Windows Basics

Introduction to Windows takes place on Mondays starting March 29 through April 19. Classes will be held 4:00 PM – 6:20 PM.

Digital Cameras, Digital Photos

SBCC School of Extended Learning, Career Skills Institute

Learn the basics of photography, the features of digital cameras, how to take better digital photos, and how to correct common photo problems using photo editing software. Designed for beginners or students with some experience in digital photography. Students should bring cameras and sample pictures to class.
You may elect to take this course independent of a Career Skills Institute digital badge or apply it to the Digital Design Basics Certificate. Participants who earn this certificate will be prepared for entry-level graphic design work in print and online media and also provides a basis for expanded course work and career laddering.
To obtain the Digital Design Basics Certificate, participants must complete a total of three required courses and one elective:
Required:
(1) Photoshop
(2) Photoshop for Digital Photographers
(3) Digital Design Techniques

Electives:
(1) Introduction to Adobe Illustrator
(2) Digital Cameras, Digital Photos
(3) Introduction to Dreamweaver

Digital Cameras, Digital Photos takes place on Mondays and Wednesdays, starting April 5 through April 14. Classes will be held 4:00 PM – 6:15 PM.

Prepare to enter or re-enter the workforce with an introduction to repurposing and refurbishing construction materials. Topics include creative re-design, commercial and residential application, marketing and materials processing.
You may elect to take this course independent of a Career Skills Institute digital badge or apply it to the Sustainable Building Module Certificate. Participants who earn this certificate will be offered a two-course module showing the usefulness/sustainability/marketing feasibility of the reuse of construction materials (from remodels and new construction), and the processes leading to reuse: deconstruction, repurposing, refurbishing, and reuse.
To obtain the Sustainable Building Module Certificate, participants must complete a total of two required courses:

(2) Repurposing and Refurbishing

Repurposing and Refurbishing takes place on Mondays, starting April 5 through May 3. Classes will be held 6:00 PM – 8:35 PM.

Graduate Student Lecture Recital: Ariella Mak-Neiman, Piano

Graduate pianist Ariella Mak-Neiman will present a virtual Doctor of Musical Arts lecture recital, titled "Haydn Revisited," on Monday, April 12, 2021 at 6 pm PDT as a YouTube Premiere via the Department of Music’s YouTube channel. The lecture will explore the atavistic elements of Haydn’s aesthetic priorities, compositional devices, and interpretive expectations in the context of his intriguing Sonata in B-flat Major, Hob. XVI:18 (1766-67). Mak-Neiman is a Doctor of Musical Arts candidate from the studio of UC Santa Barbara Professor Paul Berkowitz.

Construction Measuring and Estimating

SBCC School of Extended Learning, Career Skills Institute
Prepare to enter or re-enter the workforce with Construction Measuring and Estimating. A beginning course in residential construction math. Take as a stand-alone course or as part of a four-course series of construction classes. Topics include working with common, decimal, and carpenter fractions; using a standard tape measure; estimating material; and using a construction calculator.
You may elect to take this course independent of a Career Skills Institute digital badge or apply it to the NonCredit Intermediate Construction Module. Continued introduction to residential construction includes four consecutive four-week courses in intermediate framing, intermediate finish carpentry, intermediate electrical, and construction measuring and estimating.
To obtain the NonCredit Intermediate Construction Module Certificate, participants must complete a total of four required courses:

(1) Intermediate Construction Framing
(2) Intermediate Construction Finish Carpentry
(3) Intermediate Construction Electrical
(4) Intermediate Construction Measuring and Estimating
