Thursday Drop-In Workshops in “Chris Kallmyer: Ensemble”

Join Tina Villadolid & Ted Nash as they lead a workshop in "Chris Kallmyer: Ensemble." Visitors are invited to learn more about the exhibition and participate in hands-on music-making activities. All ages are welcome

"Ensemble" is a multi-media installation by artist Chris Kallmyer. Central to the exhibition is a specially fabricated, communal bell-ringing instrument that serves as a resource for communal activities.

Born in Los Angeles into a musical family (his father, Dick Nash, and uncle, the late Ted Nash, were both well-known jazz and studio musicians), Nash has that uncanny ability to mix freedom with substance, blues with intellect, and risk-taking with clarity. He is a co-founder of the New York-based Jazz Composers Collective, a musician-run, non-profit innovative entity dedicated to presenting the original works of composers pushing the boundaries of their self-expression. Nash is also a long-standing member of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, with Wynton Marsalis.

Tina Villadolid is a Senior Teaching Artist and Coordinator of Community Outreach for the Santa Barbara Museum of Art in California, her students range in age from pre-school to adult. She has created several pieces of permanent, public art with her students in Santa Barbara and has worked with groups in NYC, the Philippines, and Kenya, using art as a form of visual storytelling to advocate for equity in education. In her own practice, Tina uses the human figure, language, and objects as universal metaphors to process her life.. Most recently she has been working in charcoal, investigating the human gaze.
