Inspired by the exhibition of early photography, Salt and Silver, experiment with the processes used to make the first photographs. Create a camera obscura, make sun prints, and try hand tinting. Learn photographers’ secrets, from chemistry to composition and from daguerreotype to digital.

Thursday Drop-In Workshops in “Chris Kallmyer: Ensemble”

Join Jorge Pokok Mijangos as he leads a workshop in "Chris Kallmyer: Ensemble." Visitors are invited to learn more about the exhibition and participate in hands-on music-making activities. All ages are welcome

"Ensemble" is a multi-media installation by artist Chris Kallmyer. Central to the exhibition is a specially fabricated, communal bell-ringing instrument that serves as a resource for communal activities.

Jorge Mijangos is a multi-instrumentalist, master Son Jarocho musician & luthier. Born in San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico Jorge began playing music at the age of 5. He has since performed throughout the Americas at esteemed venues such as The Walt Disney Concert Hall, Santa Barbara Bowl as well as the NHCC.

A WORLD OF BLUE Creating a More Ocean Literate Society through Marine Education: Lecture by Holly S. Lohuis

Marine Biologist, Educator and Naturalist Holly S. Lohuis will share stories and images from around the world on why it is critical we understand both the ocean’s influence on us and our influence on the ocean. In her presentation, Holly will discuss tangible solutions to the solvable problems threatening the health of our water planet. Her inspirational talk will remind us that small actions can lead to big changes and that we need to be the motivating force to strive for more ocean education, both locally and around the world.
