Graduate pianist Lucía Álvarez Núñez will present a Doctor of Musical Arts recital on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 6 pm PDT as a YouTube Premiere via the Department of Music’s YouTube channel. The program will include works by Joseph Haydn, Franz Schubert, and Robert Schumann. Álvarez Núñez is a student of UC Santa Barbara Professor Paul Berkowitz.

Learn the basics of watercolor painting from SBMA Senior Teaching Artist Itoko Maeno. Focusing on landscape, this one-hour class is inspired by Stuart Davis’ "Yellow Hills" (1919). Study the artwork or use a photograph of a local landscape as inspiration while you paint.

How Media Representations of Minorities Empower Collective Action Efforts: A UCSB Reads Panel Discussion

Media representations of minorities, and how they’re shared in our society in the news, media, and social media can adversely affect how minorities see themselves and how others perceive them.
Despite these challenges, continued and unjust disadvantages are known to empower collective action efforts within minority groups and solidarity efforts within advantaged groups to correct the image and position of disadvantaged groups in society.
Join faculty Muniba Saleem and Dan Lane from UCSB’s Department of Communication, and librarian Mary-Michelle Moore for a panel discussion addressing the impact of media misinformation and the importance of media literacy.

Dr. Maxim Kuzin and the members of the UC Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra are proud to present this immortal masterpiece, one of the most beautiful and pure musical depictions of love, to the public.
