Directed by Scott Marcus, the UCSB Music of India Ensemble will present North Indian classical music for sitar and tabla on Thursday, March 12, 2020 at 7:30 pm in Karl Geiringer Hall.

Dr. Brown has published actively in several areas of Japanese art and on Japanese-style gardens in North America. His talk focuses on Western female artists in Japan in the early 20th century, including Elizabeth Keith, Helen Hyde, Bertha Lum, Lilian Miller, and French, Japan-based woodblock print artist Paul Jacoulet.

Art à la carte, sponsored by the SBMA Women’s Board, is a series of luncheons featuring acclaimed speakers that will inspire new ways of thinking about art, culture, and travel.

Each luncheon and lecture will be held at the historic Santa Barbara Club located at 1105 Chapala Street in downtown Santa Barbara. Proceeds from Art à la carte benefit the Museum’s exhibitions, education, acquisitions, and special projects.

Directed by Victor Bell, the UCSB Gospel Choir will present traditional and contemporary songs drawn from African American religious traditions on Friday, March 13, 2020 at 7:30 pm in Lotte Lehmann Concert Hall.

British pianist Benjamin Grosvenor (b.1992) has been described as “the best pianist to come out of England in the last 50 years,” and “one of the world’s most sought-after young pianists.” One needs only to listen to him play to understand the accolades are well-deserved; his playing is reminiscent of legendary pianists that are long gone—Rachmaninoff, Schnabel, Rubinstein, Serkin. His promise was evident from a young age—the winner of the Keyboard Final of the 2004 BBC Young Musician Competition at the age of eleven, and at nineteen invited to perform with the BBC Symphony
Orchestra at the Opening Night of the 2011 BBC Proms at London’s Royal Albert Hall. The upcoming concert will mark his Santa Barbara recital debut.
