AWC-SB: Women of Achievement Awards

The Santa Barbara chapter of the Association for Women in Communications host its 15th
Annual Women of Achievement Awards on Thursday, April 27, 11:30 a.m. — 1:30 p.m., at the Cabrillo Pavilion located at 1118 East Cabrillo in Santa Barbara. The honorees this year are climate champions Hillary Hauser, executive director of Heal the Ocean, and Dr. Leah Stokes, associate professor of environmental politics at UCSB. Trapeze Showcase and World Record Attempt

Unity Shoppe has partnered with Santa Barbara Trapeze Co to host a free community event! Local youth will defy gravity in a trapeze talent showcase while attempting to break the Guinness Record for the World’s Largest Food Can Pyramid. Everyone is invited to bring a canned food donation and help break a world record!

All Hands on Deck: A Modern Day High-Seas Adventure to the Far Side of the World A Reception, Presentation, Book Signing, and Film Screening with Will Sofrin

The Santa Barbara Maritime Museum (SBMM) is partnering with Anchor Rose restaurant to develop a series of collaborative harborside movie screenings and special events. The first of these will launch a new book, All Hands on Deck: A Modern Day High-Seas Adventure to the Far Side of the World, on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 4:30 p.m., with a unique experience. All Hands on Deck will include a reception on the Waterfront Center’s patio, a presentation based on author Will Sofrin’s book, an optional 18th- century-themed dinner, and a complete screening of the classic movie, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, considered by many to be the best sailing movie ever made.

State Street Ballet – The Jungle Book

State Street Ballet presents The Jungle Book on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 7:30 PM. Rudyard Kipling’s famous tale of the “laws of the jungle” will ignite your sense of adventure onstage at the Lobero. Colorful, upbeat, and wildly entertaining, this original production has successfully toured throughout California and the Southwestern United States. With choreography by Artistic Director Rodney Gustafson and audience-favorite Kassandra Taylor Newberry, an original score by Czech composer Milan Svoboda, and mesmerizing digital projections by Jean-Francois Revon, State Street Ballet’s dancers will take you on an unforgettable journey through the jungles and forests of India.

Carpinteria Valley Historical Society and History Museum’s outdoor fundraiser, The Marketplace, is scheduled for Saturday, April 29, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the museum grounds at 956 Maple Ave. in downtown Carpinteria.
