Directed by Victor Bell, the UC Santa Barbara Gospel Choir will present a virtual event titled, "The Virtual Gospel. An infusion of gospel music, gospel music history, and gospel testimonies," on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at 6 pm PST as a YouTube Premiere via the Department of Music's YouTube channel. The production will feature special guests Daniel Ozan and Rhiann Joshua.

Opening with works by Julius Eastman, Dai Fujikura, and John Cage, the stellar performers will explore a variety of ways to make music through distance and precision. The centerpiece of the program will be the premiere of six new student works written to accompany Georges Méliès' seminal silent film, "Le Voyage à travers l'impossible." In every piece, there lies a journey, whether it is from the earth to the sun, or simply an act of self-discovery.

Join Ethan McKinley, Superintendent and Juliana Matos, Biosecurity Manager of Channel Islands National Park, as they review the park’s progress during this past year, while discussing some important updates and future directions for the park. There is much in store for the park in 2021, including the opening of the new Scorpion Pier, proposals on use of the Main Ranch buildings on Santa Rosa Island, and planning efforts for backcountry and wilderness areas. In addition to the park update, the park, United States Navy, and The Nature Conservancy's Biosecurity Program Manager Juliana Matos will discuss the latest exciting developments for biosecurity on the islands.
