SBMM has decided to replace our traditional in-person annual fundraiser with a week-long gala and online auction honoring surfing legends Shaun Tomson and Renny Yater. On Friday, May 29, 2020, members of the public will be able to log in to this special celebration on https://sbmm.org/20thsurf/ and hear from our speakers, view exciting surfing moments in history, and bid on auction items including artwork, vacation stays, vintage surfing memorabilia and clothing, and much, much more. This event also gives participants the opportunity to help support and sponsor specific museum activities and exhibits by “raising a virtual paddle” for our children’s educational programs, lectures, new exhibits, and other special events throughout the year.

The UCSB Chamber Choir and Women’s Chorus will present a joint concert featuring choral masterpieces and contemporary favorites at Trinity Episcopal Church in downtown Santa Barbara on Friday, May 29, 2020 at 7:30 pm.

Directed by Scott Marcus, the UCSB Middle East Ensemble will present an evening of music and dance reflecting the great variety of cultures found in the Middle East on Saturday, May 30, 2020 at 7:30 pm in Lotte Lehmann Concert Hall. The ensemble performs music and dance from Arab, Turkish, Persian, Armenian, Greek, Jewish, and even Assyrian cultures, with everything from classical pieces to popular songs, as well as folk and cabaret-style dances.

Directed by Richard North, the UCSB Gamelan Ensemble will present a variety of traditional pieces for gamelan in both Indonesian and Malaysian styles on Sunday, May 31, 2020 at 5:30 pm in Karl Geiringer Hall.

The UCSB Chamber Orchestra will present an evening of orchestral masterpieces on Monday, June 1, 2020 at 7:30 pm in Lotte Lehmann Concert Hall. Winners of the quarterly UCSB Chamber Music Competition will perform as the UCSB Chamber Players.

Directed by Jon Nathan, the UCSB Jazz Ensemble will present standards and contemporary favorites from the jazz repertoire on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at 7:30 pm in Lotte Lehmann Concert Hall.

Inside Wine Santa Barbara will host a series of 3 virtual winemaker tastings to be conducted via the videoconferencing app Zoom in the month of May and June. Participants will purchase the wines online in advance of a tasting. Each winemaker will lead participants through an online tasting of the wines while discussing winemaking techniques and philosophy. Participants can join one or all tastings, which will be held on Thursday evenings beginning at 5:15 pm. May 7th features vintner emeritus Richard Sanford of Alma Rosa.

Directed by Scott Marcus, the UCSB Music of India Ensemble will present North Indian classical music for sitar and tabla on Thursday, June 4, 2020 at 7:30 pm in Karl Geiringer Hall.

Directed by Victor Bell, the UCSB Gospel Choir will present traditional and contemporary songs drawn from African American religious traditions on Friday, June 5, 2020 at 7:30 pm in Lotte Lehmann Concert Hall.
