Goldenvoice presents Valerie June on Friday, October 6, 2023 at 7:30 PM. Valerie June Hockett is a GRAMMY® nominated artist who’s been hailed by The New York Times as one of America’s “most intriguing, fully formed new talents.” A musician, singer, songwriter, poet, illustrator, actor, certified yoga and mindfulness meditation instructor, and author, she honorably served as a Turnaround artist working with students for the President’s Committee for the Arts and Humanities and continues serving through The Kennedy Center. Valerie June has recorded three critically acclaimed, best-selling solo albums and has also written songs for legendary artists. She’s been featured on The Tonight Show, CBS, PBS, Austin City Limits, Later with Jools, and many more.

The Santa Barbara Music Club presents “LA BELLE ÉPOQUE.” Violinist Chavdar Parashkevov and pianist Natasha Kislenko will perform a program of late romantic music by Eastern European composers. Our 2023/24 Season opens with a celebration of the 200-year anniversary of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. In an impressive collaboration of four choral groups and a quartet of soloists, Nir Kabaretti conducts more than 200 performers—all with ties to Santa Barbara. Combined with Copland’s stirring orchestral composition “The Promise of Living”, capturing the essence of 1930s rural America, and Franz Liszt’s Les Préludes, a symphonic poem of sweeping melodies and dramatic mood shifts, this concert is sure to be an Ode to Joy.
