Family 1st Thursday

Bring the whole family to enjoy Teaching Artist-led activities in the Museum’s Family Resource Center. Explore the elements of art and architecture by creating a 3D paper sculpture inspired by the collages of Marshall Brown. Afterward, enjoy the galleries until 8 pm.

A Studio Open House, Tour, & Sale with Artist Kevin A. Short

Kevin A. Short, the artist whose show The Peaceful Sea is currently on display in the SBMM gallery and Munger Theater, will hold a unique event at the museum—a combination of a studio open house, personal exhibit tours, and sale of his work—on Saturday, December 3, from 5-7pm. This special evening program is a culmination of Kevin’s exhibit at the museum, following his successful and well-received exhibit opening, an art class on the patio (October 23), and a talk at the Santa Barbara Yacht Club. There is no charge to attend, but registration is required via RSVP to Linda Fields at lfields@sbmm.org or (805) 456-8743.

Sketching in the Galleries

All skill levels are invited to experience the tradition of sketching from original works of art in current exhibitions. Museum Teaching Artists provide general guidance and all materials.

Studio Sunday

Visitors of all ages are invited to participate in this hands-on informal workshop with SBMA Teaching Artists. Each month explore a different medium—clay, metal, ink, wood, photography, paper—inspired by works of art in the Museum’s collection or special exhibitions.

In December, print a winter scene in black ink on gold paper inspired by Winter Landscape (18th –19th century) and Crows in Early Winter, two Japanese screens in the Museum’s collection of East Asian Art.

*Special time due to the Museum closing early for the Member’s holiday event.
