Three teen-focused organizations will join together to host a forum for Santa Barbara mayoral candidates this month. The event, which is open to all attendees, will be held at the Louise Lowry Davis Center on Monday, October 16 from 6:00 – 8:00pm, and is being organized by the Santa Barbara Youth Council, the Police Activities League Youth Leadership Council, and Future Leaders of America.
“There is a lot going on in the world and young people are stuck between decisions of leaders and our future,” said Jensen Steady, current chair of the Santa Barbara Youth Council. “This forum will help us contribute to where we are going.” The forum will focus on issues and concerns related to youth and young adults, and it is anticipated that all mayoral candidates will participate.
Following a meet and greet at 5:30pm, the forum will open with platform statements from the invited City Council candidates. After which student body presidents from Santa Barbara, San Marcos, and Dos Pueblos High Schools and Santa Barbara City College Associated Student Government will field questions, received from both high school and college students, to the candidates. The event will be moderated by Scott Guttentag, guidance counselor at Dos Pueblos High School. If time allows, additional questions may be fielded from the audience, and the program will end with closing remarks from each candidate.
