After a three-year hiatus due to COVID-19, American Dance & Music’s (AD&M) annual event, Up Close at The Dance Hub (formerly known as Dance: Up Close and Cultural) is back. The hour-long performance features new works that range from ballet to modern dance to ethnic dance and movement theater. The program includes a new solo for one of Santa Barbara’s finest dancers, Robin Wilson, choreographed by Weslie Ching, two dances from the Silk Road including Persia and Uzbekistan, danced by Gulistan Dance Theater, a movement theater work by E. Bonnie Lewis and Terri Lujan in tribute of their mentor, Jan E. Day, a former dancer with Bella Lewitzky, and The Dance Hub’s Adult Student Performance Group premiere of Pockets Full of Posies by artistic director Carrie Diamond. Live piano accompaniment will be provided by AD&M Music Director Eric Valinsky, and live percussion by Susan Rudnicki and Ron Wagner. Electronic music for Posies is by Nikolas Valinsky. The safety and health of the audience is a primary concern of AD&M. For this reason, attendance will be limited, full vaccination will be required, and masks will be worn at all times.
Up Close at the Dance Hub will present two shows, at 2:00pm and 4:00. Seating is limited so audience members will need to reserve their spots online in advance. To help fund its ongoing activities, AD&M will be collecting donations online. Suggested donation is $25 per seat with a minimum of $10. More information and a link to the reservation form can be found on AD&M’s website at http://adam-bsb.org/uc2022.
