We’re excited to announce and welcome you to the first Trail Talks Open Mic Night. In fact, we’ve had such a great response to our call for entries that we’re actually doing two nights, one in December, and a second in January!

So, to close out the year, the first one is Thursday, December 14, 6:30-7:30 PM, in the Faulkner Gallery, 40 E. Anapamu St., Santa Barbara, CA

Trail Talks Open Mic: Tales from the Wild

Featuring:

The Magic & Medicine of the Artemisias with Emily Watson

Emily is a certified clinical herbalist & plant geek who loves connecting people with their own personal plant allies and their healer within. She is the Director of the Artemisia Academy of Herbal Arts & Healing, and will be sharing about three amazing Artemisias found in the Los Padres wilderness, and how to identify and use them for common ailments.

Lobo Canyon Trail on Santa Rosa Island with Beverly Burr

Beverly is a local hiker and nature photographer, who has visited all 8 of the Channel Islands off our coast. She leads guided hikes on the islands, and will be sharing about the beauty and natural wonders of Lobo Canyon on Santa Rosa Island.

Summiting Mount Sabyinyo – A Day Hike in the Virunga Volcanoes with William Radford

Bill is a retired engineer and long-time resident of Santa Barbara, who enjoys trekking around the world with his wife to places with great wildlife viewing and mountain hiking. He’s hiked on five continents so far, and will be sharing about hiking to the summit of Mount Sabyinyo in the Virunga volcanoes. His route was a rugged trail through Uganda’s Mgahinga National Park, home of the mountain gorilla. The summit of this extinct volcano, at just over 12,000 feet, is the border point between Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and offers breathtaking views of all three countries.

Questing for Humboldt Lilies with James Wapotich

James is a trail guide, UC Certified California Naturalist, Volunteer Wilderness Ranger with Los Padres National Forest, and author of the Santa Barbara News-Press hiking column, Trail Quest. He will be sharing about our native Humboldt Lily, where it likes to grow, the places he’s searched for it, and what the plant has shown him over the years and how that’s deepened his appreciation and enthusiasm for our local trails.

This free presentation is part of the Trail Talks series hosted by the Santa Barbara Public Library.

The next talk in the series is Thursday, January 18, 2024, Trail Talks Open Mic: Tales from the Wild, Part II
