The event begins with a Common Table — the 500 block of State Street will be closed to vehicular traffic, and a long shared table with chairs will extend down the middle of the street. Whether alone, with friends, family, neighbors, or co-workers, etc., everyone is invited to show up with their own picnic-style food, (non-alcoholic) beverages, plates, utensils, and simply have a seat at the table. Better yet, to support downtown business, we encourage folks to purchase their food to-go from nearby restaurants and bring it to the table. A list of participating establishments on the 500 block is posted on the event’s webpage: www.unitedby.art.
Since launching last year, Common Table events have taken place in Montecito, the 1200 block of State Street, Isla Vista, Carpinteria (Linden Avenue), the Mesa, and the Eastside. What makes this 2019 season finale Common Table event special is that there will be live music, dance, poetry, and visual art displays from a broad diversity of locally-based artists.
