Roland Geyer, an associate professor of industrial ecology and green supply chain management at UC Santa Barbara, explains the unique academic programs offered at UCSB’s Bren School of Environmental Science and Management on Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 3:30 p.m. in Westmont’s Founders Room. The Sustainability Speakers Series Lecture, “An Interdisciplinary Approach to Environmental Solutions,” is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Michelle Aronson, Westmont’s sustainability and marketing coordinator, at maronson@westmont.edu.
“The Bren School is one of one of the top schools in the nation that integrates science, management, law, economics and policy as part of an interdisciplinary approach to environmental problem-solving,” Aronson says.
“This is a great opportunity for Westmont students who are passionate about sustainability and environmental science.”
Geyer, a native of Germany who earned graduate degree in physics from the Technical University Berlin and a doctorate in engineering from the University of Surrey, has taught at the Bren School since 2003. His courses focus on production and operations management, and in the emerging field of industrial ecology, such as life cycle assessment and material flow analysis. His research explores pollution prevention strategies based on recycling, reuse, and material and technology substitution.
His goal is to help develop the science and knowledge necessary to reduce the environmental impact from industrial production and consumption.
