Please join the Surfrider Foundation, Santa Barbara Chapter from 7-9 PM on Thursday October 19 for our final General Meeting of the year at the Watershed Resource Center at Hendry’s Beach. Our guest speaker will be Doug Kern, Executive Director of Gaviota Coast Conservancy.
Doug will delve deep into the pressing issues related to inappropriate development along the Gaviota Coast. He will shed light on the proactive measures that GCC is actively undertaking to address these challenges head-on. Doug’s extensive background in conservation, coupled with his commitment to protecting the environment, makes him exceptionally well-prepared to guide discussions on safeguarding this precious coastal area.
In addition we will be holding our annual election of Executive Committee members and as always there will be light refreshments and pizza.
Doug Kern is a dedicated conservationist with a profound commitment to preserving the natural beauty and ecological significance of the Gaviota Coast. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in GeoPhysics from the University of California, Berkeley, which has equipped him with a solid scientific foundation for safeguarding the unique ecosystems of this coastal region.
Doug pursued further education at Cornell University, where he earned an MBA. During his time at Cornell, Doug not only honed his business acumen but also shared his expertise as a climbing instructor, showcasing his adventurous spirit and unwavering dedication to outdoor pursuits.
Prior to assuming the role of Executive Director at the Gaviota Coast Conservancy (GCC), Doug Kern served as the Director of Conservation for the Mendocino Land Trust in Fort Bragg, California. This invaluable experience provided him with profound insights into the intricacies of land conservation and preservation strategies, all of which he now applies with diligence and unwavering dedication in his leadership at GCC.
