The Santa Barbara Blues Society is excited to welcome vocal powerhouse Nikki Hill, making her first local appearance as headliner for their upcoming show on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at the Carrillo Recreation Center, 100 E. Carrillo St. Opening the show is harmonica player R.J. Mischo. Main Doors open at 7:00 pm and the show begins at 7:15 pm.
Originally hailing from North Carolina, and raised in an environment of gospel music, Hill now lives in Memphis, Tennessee, and has become a purveyor of blues, R&B, rock, and roots music. “Think Tina Turner fronting AC/DC and you’ll have half of the picture. She’s a machine…you’ve got no excuse if you miss seeing her… Nikki Hill is a revelation, her band masters of rocket-fueled bluesy swing, her voice the beacon which calls you home… a vocal powerhouse who don’t mess around.” (Rolling Stone) Hill garnered a BMA Nomination in 2016 for Contemporary Blues Female Artist, has released several well received albums, and tours internationally. Her skilled band includes guitarist Laura Chavez, the first woman ever to win, in 2023, the coveted Guitarist of the Year Blues Music Award of the Blues Foundation.
Ventura-based R.J. Mischo is an award-winning, world-renown blues harmonicist, singer, songwriter, and record producer with 20 years of international touring experience. To date he has released 12 albums on a number of labels, and is endorsed by Hohner Harmonicas.
