Providence School presents an evening with Olympic medalist Jim Ryun, the first high school boy to run the mile in under four minutes, rated by ESPN as the number one high school athlete of all time—beating Tiger Woods and LeBron James. Ryun’s life journey, from being cut from the church baseball team to earning medals in three different Olympics, setting world records in several events, and serving as a U.S. Congressman, demonstrates how he made crucial course adjustments in the face of disappointments and successes.
Ryun’s talk is the first of this season’s Providence Presents community-wide programs, featuring speakers with information helpful to parents and others who care about youth and education. In his presentation, Ryun is expected to challenge young athletes and their parents to think about their own goals, dreams, and motivations and to make needed course corrections to reach their true God-given gifting.
The Courage to Run, Jim Ryun’s latest book, will be available for sale and signing at the event, which will be held on Wednesday, October 23 at 7 pm at Christ Presbyterian Church (36 E. Victoria Street, Santa Barbara).
All are welcome to this free program for the Santa Barbara community.
