Breast Cancer Awareness Month draws attention to and support for the awareness, early detection and treatment of breast cancer, the second most common kind of cancer in women, according to the American Cancer Society. Deaths related to breast cancer have decreased, according to the organization, due to more persistent screening, increased awareness and better treatments. There are currently 3.1 million breast cancer survivors in the United States.
