On May 25th, the County Planning & Public Works Departments hosted a community meeting at Vieja Valley School, where they presented their plans for significant changes to the 1.25 mile Hollister corridor between Hwy 154 and San Antonio Rd. Community members were surprised with how advanced the County’s proposals were, and concerned about the lack of opportunity for public input into a project that significantly affects our community.
Since that time, a handful of concerned local citizens have spent time gathering information to better understand the project. They recently met with County Planners and also attended the South County Board of Architectural Review (SBAR) meeting, where they learned more about this project and how it might impact our neighborhoods and businesses along Hollister.
The project includes widening Hollister to 4 lanes and public streetscape improvements, such as lighting, seating, landscaping, bus stop shelters, bike racks, public art, signage, multi-modal circulation, and hardscape. Driveways and parking would be changed as a result of the proposed modifications, and Modoc Road will also be impacted.
We are hosting a neighborhood meeting to educate and share information that will help us all to respond to this street-widening proposal. This should be valuable information for all those interested in the future of this unique section of Hollister Avenue and the character of the surrounding neighborhoods.
This meeting is community based and not affiliated with the County or any special interest group. Those of us hosting the meeting have been involved with the Eastern Goleta Community Plan and other community issues, like bike and pedestrian access and safety.
At this meeting, there will be presentations and time for questions.
