BACKGROUND:
It began with a news story, then a tweet, and suddenly it seemed everything had changed overnight. 2017 will forever be known as the Year of the Reckoning…. the phenomenon of courageous women and men standing up and speaking out, and of powerful men being held to account by allegations of sexual misconduct — in Hollywood, on morning television, in chic restaurant kitchens, in Congress and the California legislature. The #METOO phenomenon has engaged millions of people worldwide, provoking both solidarity and confusion, workplace tensions and new dialogues. The public is debating why sexual harassment is so widespread and what can be done to eradicate it.

Sexual harassment is a systemic issue in our culture and a pervasive problem for women of all ages and backgrounds working at every level across all sectors, not just a problem facing celebrities. Topics will include:
_ The definition of Sexual Harassment – what it is and isn’t – and Procedures for Filing Complaints
– Why HR Policies and Training Programs Aren’t the Only Answer
– The Impact of Harassment on the Victim and the Accused
– Sexual Harassment in the Workplace and Universities
– The #MeToo Phenomenon Giving Voice to Victims of Harassment Across the Globe
– The Impact of Social Media (In General) Conveying the Scale and Scope of Sexual Harassment to include LGBTQ persons.

The audience will receive informational materials and the opportunity to interact with the expert panel. The panel will offer the audience a list of strategies for creating more positive, productive workplace culture in which harassment isn’t tolerated.

This event is sponsored by AUSB’s Women & Leadership Certificate Program and AU’s Office of Institutional Advancement.
