Roald Dahl’s “Matilda The Musical” to Open New Jo Ann Caines Theatre at La Cumbre Junior HS

Memorial Day weekend will welcome Roald Dahl’s “Matilda the Musical” as the inaugural presentation at La Cumbre Junior High’s new Jo Ann Caines Theatre.  The Tony Award winning show is the captivating masterpiece from the Royal Shakespeare Company revealing the anarchy of childhood, the power of imagination and the inspiring story of a girl who dreams of a better life.

The Santa Barbara School for the Performing Arts (SOPA), Santa Barbara Dance Network, La Cumbre Junior High School, and Santa Barbara Community Academy partner in this community production with the help of Gary Smith, the theatre’s manager.  Roald Dahl’s “Matilda the Musical” is the inaugural performance of the newly formed Jo Ann Caines Collective.under the direction of Tyler X. Koontz, musical direction of Dauri Kennedy, and choreography by Natalia Emily Smith of SB Dance Network.

The production, a wide-ranging community event, includes actors from all walks of life .  The Doctor is played by Gary Smith (Music Director at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church & Theatre Head at La Cumbre Junior HS); Mrs. Wormwood  is played by Shannon Saleh (Theatre director at San Marcos High School), and Miss Trunchbull is played by Anton Chilton (CEO QAD).
