Ganna Walska Lotusland is making preparations and recruiting docents for its distinguished docent training program that occurs annually every fall. Docents provide experiential tours of Lotusland during the months of mid-February through mid-November. The training features eminent professors and educators lecturing on the various plants and gardens, and the rich history of Lotusland. In addition to the specialized training from experts, docents receive other benefits, including the comradery of other plant lovers and the ability to bring guests to Lotusland.
The annual Docent Training begins with an introductory meeting on Monday, August 26, 2019, with the first training on Monday, September 9. The training is held every Monday morning for twelve weeks with two-hour training sessions.
“The docents of Lotusland play an integral part in our educational mission at Lotusland of advancing our understanding and appreciating the importance of plants in our lives and in the life of our planet,” says Wendy Cooper, Director of Education and Outreach at Ganna Walska Lotusland. “We have an extraordinarily talented group of seasoned and new docents with a rich diversity of knowledge. If you love plants and people, we would love to have you apply to the program. Lotusland is a special place, and we are seeking individuals who want to share in our wonder and love of Lotusland.”
After completion of the training, docents are requested to commit to giving four tours a month for two years. Serving as a docent at Lotusland is a rewarding and magical experience for garden and nature enthusiasts.
