We are in the middle of an affordable housing crisis. For every 100 extremely low-income households in need of an affordable apartment only 29 are available. It is time for government leaders, the private sector and nonprofits to get creative and serious about solutions.
Some available solutions to be discussed by the panel include: home share, small and tiny houses, social impact investment, reducing building costs, supportive housing, zoning and regulation changes, rent stabilization and right to counsel, revenue measures and other ways to open the doors to affordability.
The expert panel presentation and discussion will be moderated by Emily Allen, League member and member of Home for Good in Santa Barabara County.
The panel consists of Brain Hollander, Independent Living Resource Center; Jennifer McGovern, Housing Trust Fund of Santa Barbara County; John Polanskey, Housing Authority of Santa Barbara County; Maury Ruano, Peoples’ Self Help Housing; and Lucas Zucker, Central Coast Alliance United for a Sustainable Economy (CAUSE).
Parking is next to the library and disabled parking is accessible on Anacapa Street (Granada Parking lot). Simultaneous Spanish translation will be provided by Transil Pro.
SBTV will video the forum viewing on Channel 17 and in the LWVSB YouTube channel Sound provided by Gary Atkins. The forum will also be live-streamed on our Facebook Page @LWVSB.
