La LoCA Milonga and Nomad Tango were created in the depth of the pandemic to protect and support artists, musicians, dancers, teachers, and social dancers of Tango Argentino. Over the last two years we have brought to our community such artists as Hugo Satorre, Winnie Cheung, Ruy Folguera, Camila Lima, El Cachivache, and more.
Now La LoCA is getting ready to wrap up the season with two internationally acclaimed sets of artists coming to our city on October 11 and November 12.
On Tuesday October 11 we have a special guest for a lecture with the title: “Past, present, future, and always…tango!”. The speaker is scholar and Grammy Award Musician, Pablo Aslan. Pablo is coming with a Grant from the Grammy Foundation to catalogue the amazing tango collection housed in our own UCSB, the Edouard Pecourt Collection. This is probably one of the largest public tango collections in the world. And it is here, in Santa Barbara.
On Saturday November 12 we will be hosting Tanghetto, the leading Electro Tango band in the world. They recently completed a tour that included the Lincoln Center, and 14 cities in Europe in less than a month. Tanghetto has been nominated four times to the Grammys and won the 2021 award for their album “Tanghetto plays Piazzolla”. Tanghetto will be performing at the Carrillo Ballroom. The event will be open and appropriate for dancers and non-dancers alike.
