What You’ll Do
Nature Journaling
Nature Journaling is the process of observing and documenting the natural world through words, numbers, and pictures. In this activity, participants will learn how to observe nature and document what they see. Led by Theo Patterson of the Santa Barbara Natural History Museum.
Storytelling with Zines
Zines are powerful storytelling vehicles — for large, public audiences and more intimate circles of friends and families. This hands-on activity will introduce zine-making as an easy way for people to document (and share) their experiences, observations, and ideas, with a particular eye toward stories about nature connection and climate optimism. Zine-and-art beginners are absolutely welcome and encouraged to join! Led by artists Arya Natarajan and Amy Wu.
Crowd-Sourced Art Installation
The ‘10 Knots’ project champions the cross-disciplinary strength of art and science to address locally-rooted contemporary ecological and environmental concerns through community engagement in a public art project. Participants will learn basic hand-mending skills as they contribute stitches towards this reclaimed-textile-based installation. Workshop led by local artist Eliot Spaulding.
