Hiking New Zealand’s Tuatapere Hump Ridge Track
Free Presentation with Q&A

Faulkner Gallery – Santa Barbara Public Library
40 East Anapamu St., Santa Barbara, CA
Located in Fiordland National Park, in the southernmost part of New Zealand, Tautapere Hump Ridge Track leads through Waitutu Forest and offers scenic views of New Zealand’s rugged coastline, including the Fiordland area and Stewart Island.
The roughly 38 mile-long hike is broken up over three full days of hiking, with two nights at different modern, backcountry lodges along the route that offer sleeping accommodations, hot showers, porridge for breakfast, and other luxuries.
Join Doug and Jody Thomas, as they share about their adventures along this scenic trail. Lovers of the outdoors, Doug and Jody, have been married for nearly 35 years and live in a teeny house in Santa Barbara. They are bee-havers, pretty terrible gardeners, and very good grandparents. The hike along Hump Ridge Track is rated as moderate, but they’ll let you decide if it should’ve been rated as difficult.
This free talk is part of the ongoing Wilderness Hiking Speaker Series hosted by the Santa Barbara Public Library. The talks are the third Thursday of the month and feature topics related to hiking, backpacking, and our local natural history.
The next talk in the series is Thursday, March 19th, Waterfalls of the Santa Barbara and Ojai Mountains with James Wapotich.
