Ghosts dance, and lovers die in the ultimate Halloween spectacle. Opera Santa Barbara’s returns to the Lobero Theater on October 29 and 31 with a 90’ double feature of fiery flamenco ballet and a taut operatic thriller. Experience the best opera and ballet in the Central Coast in just under 90′.
Candela is haunted by her late husband’s ghost as she discovers the truth about the past, in Manuel DeFalla’s 25′ flamenco ballet El Amor Brujo, starring dancers from State Street Ballet and mezzo-soprano Nina Yoshida Nelsen. Broken dreams, a fateful love affair, and a murder onboard a barge on the seine are accompanied by a haunting score in Puccini’s Tabarro. Baritone Todd Thomas, tenor Harold Meers, and soprano Alaysha Fox star in this new production by director Layna Chianakas and scenic designer Steven Kemp. Kostis Protopapas conducts the Opera Santa Barbara Orchestra.
