The Mystery of the Disappearing Gifted Girls
Parents & teachers are invited to hear Gifted Education Expert Dr. Linda Kreger Silverman address this crisis & the unique social-emotional & academic needs of our gifted girls.
What is the crisis with the gifted girl population? Girls with High IQs make themselves invisible, hiding their intelligence, typically by 2nd grade. This makes it difficult to identify them and therefore difficult to appropriately support them academically, socially, and emotionally.
These girls:
★ Are less likely to be identified as gifted than boys
★ Often hide their intelligence to fit in socially
★ Tend to treat school as a social experience
★ Are less likely to be disruptive & withdraw than boys
★ Often pretend they can’t do things they CAN do
★ Parents & teachers commonly miss signs of giftedness
★ Often slow down their natural rate of learning & GIVE UP their dreams

Who’s Invited:
– Parents and educators are invited to hear Gifted Education Expert Dr. Linda Kreger Silverman speak. Her presentation will be followed by a Q&A session.
– Gifted girls age 4 and older are invited to attend for a variety of fun activities and to meet other gifted girls while their parents attend the presentation. Girls are free of charge, but a Gifted Girl Admission ticket is required! This portion of the event is specifically for gifted girls only.
Guest Speaker: Linda Kreger Silverman, Ph.D.,
is a licensed clinical and counseling psychologist. She directs the Institute for the Study of Advanced Development, and its subsidiaries, the Gifted Development Center [www.gifteddevelopment.com] and Visual-Spatial Resource [www.visualspatial.org], in Denver, Colorado. In the last 38 years, she has studied over 6,400 children who have been assessed at GDC, the largest data bank on this population.
This research enabled the creation of extended norms on the WISC-IV. Her Ph.D. is in educational psychology and special education from the University of Southern California. For nine years, she served on the faculty of the University of Denver in counseling psychology and gifted education. She has been studying the psychology and education of the gifted since 1961 and has written over 300 articles, chapters and books, including Counseling the Gifted and Talented, Upside-Down Brilliance: The Visual-Spatial Learner, Advanced Development: A Collection of Works on Gifted Adults and Giftedness 101(translated into Swedish and Korean).
