Designing Dreams from Derricks: A Global Citizens Club Event

On Wednesday, November 6th, 2019, the Global Citizens Club will gather at the El Encanto Hotel to discuss the merits of repurposing the stranded oil derricks located off Santa Barbara’s coastline. This meeting is part of our 2019 series on “Greening our Infrastructure”, and focuses on long-standing housing issues while also considering concepts for creating a “green” and vibrant downtown corridor that retains Santa Barbara’s historic charm.
We are looking forward to engaging with experts of all perspectives, ranging from local fishers to entrepreneurs to environmental advocates and academic researchers, to discuss the pros and cons. Removing the derricks and restoring the ocean environment will cost oil companies hundreds of millions. Can we engage an old adversary to transform this historical liability into a long-term asset?
