Author Jennifer Torres will visiting the Santa Barbara Central and Eastside Libraries on October 6 and October 7, 2017 to help us celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with two special bilingual storytimes and a children’s writing workshop. This program is supported by a Community Arts Grant from the Santa Barbara Office of Arts and Culture.
Jennifer Torres is the author of the middle grade novel Stef Soto,Taco Queen, the picture book, Finding the Music/En pos de la música, and the upcoming middle grade novel, Flor and Miranda Steal the Show (June 2018, Little Brown Books for Young Readers). She started her writing career as a newspaper reporter. She still writes for magazines and is still passionate about the news.
Jennifer’s fiction is inspired by her Mexican-American heritage, and she hopes her books help show young readers that their voices and their stories matter. She lives with her husband and two little girls in southern California.
Hispanic Heritage Storytime
Jennifer Torres, author of the bilingual picture book Finding the Music/ En pos de la música,will lead us in a special bilingual storytime at Eastside Library to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month! Celebrate family, tradition and community in this storytime featuring mariachi-themed activities and Mexican folk art.
Children’s Writing Workshop with author Jennifer Torres
Telling True Stories: Students in grades 3 through 8 are invited to a writing workshop with Jennifer Torres, author of the middle grade novels Stef Soto, Taco Queen and Flor and Miranda Steal the Show (coming June 2018). Everyone has an important story to tell. Practice sharing yours with dialogue and detail. Please register for this event on the library’s website.
