MORE INFO: PLANIT NOW (aka P!N) was formed in 2004 after Hurricane Ivan, a category 5 storm, struck the island nation of Grenada, reducing its rainforest to shrubs, removing roofs from 90 percent of the island’s buildings and killing dozens. In recovery, P!N built an IT center at a middle school in Grenada post-storm with USAID; developed an measurably-effective stress relief program with the Grenada Basketball Association for teens who’d lost job prospects with Laureus’ Sport for Good. The organization also created a book project to raised money and drive tourism back to Grenada called ‘Morgan Freeman and Friends: Cooking for a Cause/Rodale Press. For Katrina, P!N with Rebuilding Together (Fifty for Five program) rebuilt homes and a church in the Gentilly neighborhood of New Orleans; raised half a million for relief for and awarded college scholarships to Hurricane Rita and Katrina kids and kids from Haiti at Miami-Dade School . The organization also developed a severe weather planning game with NOAA/NWS which won the NWA’s Public Education Award in 2012.
