Birding in Santa Barbara: Connecting Us to the Wilderness
Thursday, March 15th, 6:30PM
Faulkner Gallery – Santa Barbara Public Library
40 East Anapamu St., Santa Barbara, CA
Join naturalist Rebecca Coulter to explore birding in our region as one of the best ways to connect with nature, whether on a backcountry trail or wandering around a city park. By opening our eyes and ears to the birds around us, we deepen our experience in nature—and the joy of discovering how birds can link us to the wilderness, no matter where we are in the world.
Rebecca began seriously birding 20 years ago when she discovered that the experts could identify bird species just by listening to them! That realization fueled her passion to learn it for herself, and she now teaches others to recognize the chorus—and cast of avian characters—all around us. She is compiler for the annual Santa Barbara Audubon Christmas Bird Count, and teaches birding classes for the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, SBCC School of Extended Learning, and the Botanic Garden.
The talk is FREE and part of the ongoing Wilderness Hiking Speaker Series hosted by the Santa Barbara Public Library. The talks are the third Thursday of the month and feature topics related to hiking, backpacking, and our local natural history.
The next talk in the series is Thursday, April 19th, The Good, The Bad, and The Bugly with Frederique Lavoipierre from the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden.
