Mayoral candidate Maiza Hixson will hold a press conference in response to the City’s recently proposed 2018-2019 arts budget. The conference will take place at the Santa Barbara Center for Art, Science and Technology at 513 Garden Street, Suite E on Wednesday, June 14 at 12:00 p.m. The press is invited to attend. Hixson will address the City’s future work plan that focuses on: 1. Transient issues; 2. Presence of uniformed officers in the City; 3. Creative options for vacant storefront spaces on State Street; 4. State Street sculpture pads; and 5. A revitalization plan for the 101 Underpass on Lower State Street.
“The City needs to articulate a much clearer and more progressive vision for the Arts than what is outlined in the proposed 2018-2019 budget. Where is the Master Plan for the Arts in Santa Barbara? As members of the arts and cultural community, we represent thousands of individuals and organizations that will trigger a renewed interest in the City of Santa Barbara that can translate into millions of dollars, raise the profile of the City’s rich cultural offerings, transform neighborhoods and public spaces, and establish a foundation for preserving our creative past. The City must be more responsive to our collective demands for a seat at the table.” -Hixson
